WHAT IS THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN EXOSKELETON PROSTHESIS AND ENDOSKELETON PROSTHESIS, WHICH WILL BE THE BEST CHOICE?

 EXOSKELETON PROSTHESIS

Is a prosthesis which will be hallow by inside. Have a harder plastic or metal shell in shape of the limb. They are permanently fixed not changeable   It consist of a suspension to hold the prosthesis, socket to fit into the residual limb/stump, Extension to match the height of the sound side limb and foot will be attached distally.

WEIGTH OF THE PROSTHESIS

The weight of the prosthesis will be more compare to the endoskeleton prosthesis.

WEIGTH BEARING OF THE PROSTHESIS

The weight bearing capacity of the prosthesis will be less compared to endoskeleton prosthesis.

MATERIALS  USED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PROSTHESIS

Previously Wood was used to make the outer shell of the prosthesis, Now polypropylene material is used to fabricate the outer shell of the prosthesis.

WATER RESISTANT

As mentioned above Exoskeleton prosthesis is fabricated of  polypropylene material which can withstand water compared to endoskeleton.

COST OF THE  EXOSKELETON PROSTHESIS

Cost of the exoskeleton prosthesis will be less compared to endo skeleton prosthesis because of the less cost material used.

ADVANTAGES

More durable

Less damage to the prosthesis

Water resistant.

DISADVANTAGES

Fabrication time will be more

Not suitable for knee disarticulation

Not provide efficient stance and swing phase control

Alignment cannot be changed once finishing done.

It is heavy in weight.

ENDOSKELETON PROSTHESIS

Endoskeleton prosthesis consist of the pylon which is made up of metal and will be directly attached to socket and the foot.

Over the pylon soft material is used to cover and to provide the cosmetic look to the patient.

WEIGTH OF THE PROSTHESIS

The weight of the prosthesis will be less compare to the endoskeleton prosthesis.

WEIGTH BEARING OF THE PROSTHESIS

The weight bearing capacity of the prosthesis will be more compared to endoskeleton prosthesis.

MATERIALS  USED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PROSTHESIS

Metal pylon is used to make the extension of the prosthesis, Now polypropylene material is used to fabricate the socket of the prosthesis.

WATER RESISTANT

As mentioned above Endoskeleton prosthesis is fabricated of  metal pylon material but the covering will be with soft EVA material  which cannot withstand water compared to exoskeleton.

COST OF THE  ENDOSKELETON PROSTHESIS

Cost of the endoskeleton prosthesis will be more compared to exoskeleton prosthesis because of the  cost components used.

ADVANTAGES

Fabrication time will be less

Suitable for knee disarticulation

Provide efficient stance and swing phase control

Aligment can be changed once finishing done.

It is not heavy in weight.

DISADVANTAGES

 No Water resistant.

Outer sheel of soft cosmesis is get easily damaged

More cost.
